Raised Garden Beds
Raised Garden Beds

Primary Garden- (raised planter)

The raised planting beds serve as an outdoor classroom during the growing season.  Children learn about soil, planting and harvesting vegetables through their participation in Westmoor Park enrichment programs, school field trips and Farm and Nature Summer Camps.  The planting beds are bursting with lettuce, radishes, tomatoes, and a variety of other tasty treats.

Herb Garden-

Rosemary, Lavender, Oregano, Dill, Thyme, and Nasturtiums are samples of the popular culinary herbs and edible flowers that round out our circular herb garden.  Brick pavers add interest and functionality as they divide the garden into four pie shaped pieces for easier accessibility.  Enjoy an aromatic stroll around the garden. See the bounty which nature provides as part of a healthy diet.

“Remember Me “Rose Garden-

Westmoor Park was selected as one of 20 nationwide recipients for the ‘”Remember Me” Rose School Garden Award’ in 2005 by The National Gardening Association, in collaboration with “Remember Me” Rose Gardens and Edmunds’ Roses.  The Award was created as an educational tool commemorating the events of September 11, 2001.    In addition to the educational benefits, this garden provides a tranquil refuge and quiet place of beauty where one can reflect.

The Shady Toad Garden

Toad Garden-

This small garden is a display of various shade loving plants including Japanese Painted Ferns, Lady’s Mantle, and Jack in the Pulpit.  The garden is on the north side, set against the backdrop of the weathered wooden shed.  This is an ideal habitat for our resident toads to take shelter among the leafy foliage.  Toads prey on insects and are an eco-friendly alternative to pesticides.  Come visit the garden and see if you can find a friendly toad!
